Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka Pass – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Scenic Drive Through the High Atlas Mountains
Your journey begins with an early departure from Marrakech, heading southeast through the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains. Ascend the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), where the panoramic views of Berber villages, terraced fields, and rugged peaks are simply breathtaking.
Explore the Historic Ait Ben Haddou
Stop at the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most photogenic spots. Walk through its maze of earthen buildings, admire centuries-old architecture, and climb to the top for panoramic views of the Ounila Valley.
Ouarzazate and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs
Continue to Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert and home to Morocco’s most prominent film studios. After a brief stop, travel along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, dotted with palm groves and ancient fortified villages, toward Dades Valley. Spend the night in a charming hotel or riad nestled within the dramatic gorge, with dinner included.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi (1st Night in Desert Camp)
Todra Gorges: Natural Wonder of the South
After breakfast, continue to the Todra Gorges, a stunning canyon carved by the Todra River. The towering 300-meter cliffs create a dramatic backdrop for walking, photography, and observing daily life in nearby Berber communities.
Onward to the Sahara via Erfoud and Rissani
Pass through the desert towns of Erfoud and Rissani. Erfoud is known for its fossil workshops, while Rissani boasts a lively traditional market and deep historical roots as a former caravan hub.
Camel Trek into the Dunes of Erg Chebbi
Arrive in Merzouga, where your camel caravan awaits. Ride into the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi dunes, glowing with amber and gold at sunset. This is one of the most spectacular landscapes in Morocco.
Spend Your First Night in a Luxury Desert Camp
Reach your desert camp nestled deep in the dunes. Enjoy a warm Berber welcome, a traditional Moroccan dinner, live music around the fire, and stargazing under an unpolluted night sky. Sleep in a comfortable, private tent with modern amenities — a magical and memorable night awaits.
Day 3: Merzouga Exploration – Khamlia – Nomads – Oasis – Erg Chebbi (2nd Night in Desert Lodge)
Watch the Sunrise and Discover Desert Life
Rise early to witness a magnificent Sahara sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, enjoy a full day dedicated to discovering the depths of the desert.
Visit the Gnawa Village of Khamlia
Explore Khamlia, a small village inhabited by descendants of Sub-Saharan slaves, where you’ll enjoy a live performance of Gnawa music—a soulful fusion of rhythm and history.
Explore Nomadic Life and Desert Oases
Visit local nomadic families who live in traditional tents, offering an insightful look into their lifestyle. Continue to nearby desert oases, admire the black volcanic rock formations, and learn about the flora and fauna that survive in these harsh conditions.
2nd Night in a Desert Lodge
In the evening, return to a desert lodge in Merzouga or a comfortable guesthouse at the edge of the dunes. This allows you to refresh with full amenities while still enjoying the desert setting. Dine on Moroccan cuisine and relax under the stars for your second desert night, more intimate and relaxing than the first.
Day 4: Merzouga – Alnif – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Drive Through the Anti-Atlas Mountains and Draa Valley
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Marrakech via a different route, passing through Alnif and the impressive Anti-Atlas Mountains. These stark, arid landscapes contrast sharply with the lush Draa Valley, home to one of the longest palm groves in Morocco.
Lunch in Ouarzazate and Scenic Return to Marrakech
Pause in Ouarzazate for lunch and a brief rest before crossing the High Atlas Mountains once again. Enjoy the mountain views one last time before arriving in Marrakech by evening, where your 4-day desert adventure concludes.
