We depart from your Marrakech riad or hotel early in the morning, beginning our breathtaking journey across the formidable High Atlas Mountains. We will carefully navigate the winding, scenic roads of the Tizi n'Tichka pass, which peaks at an impressive 2,260 meters, stopping frequently to admire panoramic views of traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides. Our first major stop is the world-famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an iconic backdrop for major Hollywood films like 'Gladiator' and 'Game of Thrones'. After a leisurely lunch overlooking the ancient fortress, we pass through Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Africa, and travel along the scenic 'Road of a Thousand Kasbahs'. The day concludes as we arrive at our comfortable hotel nestled deep within the picturesque Dades Valley, where a warm dinner awaits.
After a delicious breakfast, we leave the beautiful Dades Valley and head towards the dramatic Todra Gorge, a monumental fault in the earth where sheer limestone cliffs rise over 300 meters above the valley floor. Enjoy a peaceful, refreshing walk through the narrow canyon, listening to the echoing sounds of the river below. Continuing our journey, we pass through Erfoud, famous for its intricate fossil workshops, as the landscape transitions into the arid, sun-drenched Saharan plains. We arrive in the desert outpost of Merzouga in the late afternoon, just in time to trade our vehicle for a traditional camel caravan. Embark on a highly picturesque trek across the towering, golden dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun begins to set. Arrive at your luxury desert camp to be treated to a traditional Moroccan dinner, enchanting drumming around the campfire, and an unforgettable night sleeping under a blanket of stars.
Wake up early to witness a truly magical Saharan sunrise, watching as the shifting dunes change color from deep crimson to bright gold. After a refreshing shower and a hearty breakfast at the desert camp, you will ride your camel back to the meeting point to reconnect with your driver. We then begin our scenic return journey to Marrakech, taking a different and equally beautiful route through the arid landscapes of Alnif. The drive takes us through the expansive palm groves of the Draa Valley, one of the longest rivers in Morocco. We will cross the striking Anti-Atlas mountains back to Ouarzazate, and finally ascend the High Atlas Mountains once more to arrive in Marrakech by early evening. You will be dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of a truly incredible desert adventure.
